Bedgebury

National Pinetum. Pines, lakes, pines, water fowl, pines, fungi, pines. Good for landscapes, fungi in autumn, bark close-ups, flowers, insects. (£)

Bewl Water

Photogenic for woodland, water, boats, birds. Miles of footpaths around water. Parking (£)

Off A21 near Lamberhurst.

Bodiam Castle (National Trust)

Classic moated castle, good in morning and evening light, especially in winter. (£)

Canterbury and Cathedral

Historic city with architectural interest. Cathedral area (£).

Chatham Royal Naval Dockyard Museum

Preserved dockyard, ships and boats. Rope-making. Lifeboat museum. Tours of HMS Cavalier, last WW2 Destroyer and HMS Ocelot, submarine. (£)

Cranbrook

Unspoilt Kentish town

Cranbrook Windmill

Open Sat and Bank Holidays. Easter - end Sept. Free entry. Finest example of white weather boarded, working smock mill in England.

Dover Harbour, Marina and Castle

Plenty of social, industrial, travel, documentary photography. Architecture around and in castle. Historical re-enactments in programme. 01304 201628 (Castle) (£)

Dover White Cliffs

Recreational area above Dover harbour, formerly White Cliffs Experience (now closed) orchids in summer chalk flora, butterflies.

Dover Samphire Ho

Huge ecological experiment on regeneration, with the spoil from the Channel Tunnel - at the foot of the white cliffs. Birds, insects, flowers including Spider Orchids in May/June.

Beach shingle plants fishing boats and huts, beach detritus, light railway (steam engines), lighthouse, nuclear power station. GR TR 085173.

Eridge Rocks

Outcrop of sandstone cliffs and rocks between Groombridge and Eridge. Natural history, ferns, mosses fungi, flowers. Rock shapes. Parking GR TQ532364

Faversham Creek

Old Thames barges and other traditional craft - for all things and details nautical.

Gravesend

River Thames, river traffic, boat trips into central London and down river from West Pier. Annual Thames Barge Race. Gravesend Pier restoration.

Groombridge Place

A good site for nature and architectural photography. Location is at 553500E 137500N. (£)

Ightham Mote (National Trust)

Moated Manor House and gardens. (£)

Kent Piers

Gravesend (under restoration), Margate.

Knowle Park (National Trust)

Deer park, trees insects, mammals and birds. Tours of House, but normally no photography inside. Sevenoaks. House (£)

Maidstone Market

The County Town market colourful stalls and people Tuesdays and Saturdays. Nearby Medway river, old buildings, church and Millennium Bridge. GR TQ759554.

Marden Meadow

A carpet of orchids in mid May- early June (Kent Trust Nature Reserve open to the public)

Kent Trust for Nature. Details of many wonderful Nature reserves throughout the County.

The Pantiles Tunbridge Wells

Interesting architecture, churches nearby- mainly street photography

Reculver Country Park

Famous for Reculver Towers ruin and Roman remains.

Rochester

Old town including river Medway, Rochester Castle, Rochester Cathedral (second oldest in the country). Annual Dickens Festival in June and December and the Sweeps' festival over May Bank Holiday. Much architectural and street photography.

Sissinghurst Castle and Garden (National Trust)

A famous National Garden to yourself for only £15?

Well almost. Sissinghurst Castle Garden is offering to open the Garden for non-commercial photography on its normally closed days of Wednesday and Thursday each week for the use of as few as six artists or photographers from 10am to 4pm. Easels and tripods (normally banned) will be allowed. Apply on 01580 710700, booking essential, cost £15. Commercial photographers should enquire separately for rates and conditions.
