Exhibition 2003
Fairfield Halls, Croydon
This Exhibition was held at the
Fairfield Halls, Croydon from Monday 16th June until Friday 27th June
2003 and was a celebration of as wide a range of work and authorship
as could be presented from within the Region.
Some 310 entries were submitted from 65
photographers in the south east; 70 prints were chosen for the
Exhibition. This was a non-competitive exhibition; a panel of three
selectors chose the best quality images, each selector choosing their
favourite two images which were starred when hung. Many entrants chose
to take the opportunity to write up to 40 words about their images.
These comments were displayed on cards alongside the glass framed
images. Authors and titles were also displayed on narrow corner strips
under the glass. These arrangements enabled viewers to gain immediate
information about each image and made the need for a detailed (and
expensive) catalogue unnecessary.
Thanks goes to R. Keith Evans
FRPS
and the regional members who planned and undertook the considerable
work needed to mount the Exhibition. Their hard work was rewarded by
the many congratulatory comments on the presentation of the exhibits.
Congratulations must also go to all those who entered work. Not only
were the images displayed of extremely high standard and variety (by
general consensus) but many of those that could not be displayed,
mainly through lack of space, were
of similar quality.
Those
attending the Opening Reception on Saturday 21st June included the RPS
President, John Page Hon FRPS,
who travelled from Somerset to be with us. John, kindly, officially
opened the Exhibition and presented two prizes for the two best prints
in the Junior Section.
Caitlin Morris (aged 7 years) won the
President’s Prize and Scott King (aged 8 years) won the Selector’s
Prize. Many of young photographers were pre-teenage and it would have
been nice to see some teenage photography. However at least one of the
successful entrants in the open section was a teenager.
Pictures accepted and hung, and their
authors, were as follows:
